Faith destroys all doubts, so that none can shake it. Exertion eliminates indolence, so that all is accomplished in accordance with one's original vows. Mindfulness destroys wrong thoughts, so that one is not corrupted by afflictions. Concentration destroys distraction, leaving turbulence far behind. Though speaking, it does not obstruct the first dhyāna; skillfully abiding in investigation and analysis, it does not obstruct the second dhyāna; joy arising in the mind, it does not obstruct the third dhyāna; teaching and transforming sentient beings, it does not obstruct the fourth dhyāna. Obstructing the dharmas of the four dhyānas does not obstruct the various concentrations; nor does one abandon concentration, nor follow concentration—this is termed the 'power of concentration'. Wisdom destroys wrong attachments, both all attachments and all wisdom being fully illuminated together—this is termed the 'power of wisdom'. These five powers are termed the 'Mahāyāna'. If one does not enter, one uses the seven factors of awakening (bodhyaṅga) to balance and attune.
