Speak the verse. Having spoken this verse, one should further make vows with mind and mouth: 'May this disciple, at the approach of death, have a mind that is neither inverted, confused, nor devoid of right mindfulness; may body and mind be free of all pain and suffering, and may body and mind be joyful as though entering dhyāna. May the sacred assembly appear before me, and riding the Buddha's original vows, may I attain rebirth in the highest grade of the superior rank in the land of Amitābha Buddha. Having arrived in that land, having attained the six supernatural faculties, may I re-enter the realms of the ten directions to save and gather in suffering sentient beings. As empty space and the dharmadhātu are endless, my vows are also like this.' Having made the vows, with utmost sincerity I take refuge in and bow to Amitābha Buddha.
