1.32

密師伯因把針次，師問：「作什麼？」伯云：「把針。」師曰：「把針事作麼生？」伯云：「針針相似。」師曰：「二十年同行作這箇語話，豈有與麼工夫？」伯曰：「長老又作麼生？」師曰：「如大地火發底道理。」他日問師：「知識所通莫不遊踐，徑截處乞師一言。」師曰：「師伯意何得取功？」伯因斯頓覺下語非常。

Senior Uncle Mi was once holding a needle, and the Master asked, "What are you doing?" Uncle said, "Holding a needle." The Master asked, "What about holding a needle?" Uncle said, "Stitch by stitch resembles each other." The Master said, "Travelling together for twenty years, to speak words like this! How could there be such effort?" Uncle said, "How would the elder speak of it?" The Master said, "Like the principle of fire erupting across the great earth." Another day, he asked the Master, "Of all that good friends understand, there is none they have not trodden; I beg the Master for a word on the direct cut." The Master said, "Senior Uncle, how could your mind seek merit?" At this Uncle had a sudden awakening, and his utterances became extraordinary.
