洞山將圓寂，謂眾曰：「吾有間名在世，誰人為吾除得。」眾皆無對。時沙彌出曰：「請和尚法號。」山曰：「吾間名已謝。」師曰：「從古至今，無人辨得。」

When Dongshan was about to enter complete quiescence, he said to the assembly, "I have an idle name in the world; who can eliminate it for me?" The assembly had no reply. At that time a novice stepped forward and said, "Please tell us the Master's Dharma name." Shan said, "My idle name has already withered away." The Master said, "From antiquity to the present, no one has been able to distinguish it."
