3.83

因齋次，問僧：「盂裏幾餅？餅裏幾盂？」僧拈起餅，師云：「問著箇老婆。」無對。代云：「不消。」又於問處云：「大眾喫飯次。」

During a meal, [the Master] asked a monk, "How many cakes are in the bowl? How many bowls are in the cake?"
The monk picked up a cake.
The Master said, "I questioned an old woman."
There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, he said, "It is not needed."
He also said, at the point of the question, "The assembly is eating their meal."
