上堂云：「牙上生牙，角上生角，機上生機，巧上生巧，毒蛇鼻頭揩癢，饑鷹爪下奪肉，千尺井底施籌略，百尺竿頭作伎倆，納須彌於芥子，擲大千於方外，奇則甚奇，妙則甚妙，子細檢點將來，爭如向這裏直下似桶底脫去，三界平沈得箇休歇，過去自過去，未來由未來，只今見成，坐斷天下人舌頭。還委悉麼？簷聲不斷前旬雨，電影還連後夜雷。」

Ascending the hall, he said: “Teeth grow upon teeth, horns grow upon horns, dynamic function emerges from dynamic function, skill emerges from skill; scratching an itch on a venomous snake's nose, snatching meat from beneath a hungry hawk's talons, devising plans at the bottom of a thousand-foot well, performing tricks at the top of a hundred-foot pole, taking Sumeru into a mustard seed, hurling the great trichiliocosm beyond direction—extraordinary indeed, wondrous indeed! Yet examining it carefully, how could it compare to dropping off the bottom of the bucket right here, the three realms levelling into a sink, attaining a complete rest? The past of itself passes, the future takes its own course; right now it is ready-made, cutting off the tongues of everyone under heaven. Do you understand completely? The sound of eaves does not cease from the rain ten days ago; flashes of lightning still join with thunder later tonight.”
