舉洞山示眾云。秋初夏末。兄弟或東或西。直須向萬里無寸草處去。又云。只如萬里無寸草處。作麼生去。石霜云。出門便是草。大陽云。直道不出門亦是草漫漫地。頌曰。

Dongshan instructed the assembly, saying: "At the beginning of autumn and the end of summer, brothers go either east or west; you must go directly to the place where there is not an inch of grass for ten thousand li." He also said: "Just as for the place where there is not an inch of grass for ten thousand li, how do you go?"
Shishuang said: "Stepping out the gate, there is grass immediately."
Dayang said: "Even if you do not step out the gate, grass is everywhere without end."
