27.91

宗利受業會稽天華。修法華懺三載。夢亡母謝曰。荷汝懺功已生善道。期滿見普賢從空而過。復謁大智律師增受戒法。忽夢律師吐白珠令吞之。嘗神遊淨土。見寶池蓮華行樹之相。尋詣新城碧沼。修念佛三昧者十年。後入道味山築菴名一相。越十五年。謂弟子曰。吾見白蓮華遍滿空中。三日復曰。佛來矣。即書偈曰。吾年九十頭雪白。世上應無百年客。一相道人歸去來。金臺坐斷乾坤窄。奄然而化。

Zongli received ordination at Tianhua in Kuaiji. He practiced the Lotus Repentance for three years. He dreamt of his deceased mother thanking him, saying, "Relying on the merit of your repentance, I have already been born in a good destiny." When the period was completed, he saw Samantabhadra passing through the sky. He then visited Vinaya Master Dazhi to receive further precepts. Suddenly, he dreamt that the Vinaya Master spat out a white pearl and bade him swallow it. He once journeyed in spirit to the Pure Land, seeing the marks of jeweled ponds, lotus flowers, and rows of trees. Soon after, he went to Bizhao in Xincheng, where he practiced the Buddha-recitation samādhi for ten years. Later, he entered Mount Daowei and built a hermitage called Yixiang. Fifteen years later, he said to his disciples, "I see white lotus flowers filling the sky." Three days later, he spoke again: "The Buddha has arrived!" He then wrote a gāthā:
"I am ninety years old, my head white as snow; / In this world there should be no guest of a hundred years. / The Man of the Way of Yixiang turns and goes home; / Seated upon the golden terrace, heaven and earth feel cramped."
He then passed away peacefully.
