善本。試華嚴經得度。自淨慈詔住法雲。賜號大通。後歸杭州象塢專修淨業。有僧定中見方丈彌陀佛示金色身。一日告門人曰。止有三日在。至期趺坐面西而化。

Shanben obtained ordination by passing the examination on the Avataṃsaka Sūtra. From Jingci he was summoned by imperial decree to reside at Fayun, and was bestowed the title Datong. Later he returned to Xiangwu in Hangzhou to focus on cultivating Pure Land practice. A monk in samādhi saw Amitābha Buddha in the abbot's quarters displaying a golden body. One day [Shanben] told his disciples: "Only three days remain." When the time arrived, he sat cross-legged facing west and passed away.
