The Yuan Wei above ruled over seventeen emperors, spanning one hundred and seventy years. There were forty-seven great state temples. In addition, to the west of the seat of government at Heng'an in Northern Dai, for more than thirty li upward and downward on both sides, they carved the rock and excavated niches, lining them everywhere with Buddha images. The adornments and magnificent sights are beyond calculation, and are still extant today; though the Dharma has repeatedly suffered destruction, these niches have not crumbled. The monasteries of princes, dukes, noble houses, and the five ranks of feudal lords numbered eight hundred and thirty-nine; monasteries built by the common people numbered over thirty thousand. The total number of monks and nuns ordained was two million. Translators of scriptures were nineteen persons, producing forty-nine texts.
