19.51

左傳昭二年。子產對趙景子曰。人生死化曰。魄既生魄陽。曰魂用物精多則魂。魄強是。以有精爽至於。神明匹夫匹婦。強死其魂魄猶能憑依於人。以為淫厲。況良霄乎。

In the Zuozhuan, during the second year of Duke Zhao, Zichan replied to Zhao Jingzi, saying: 'When a human being is born, transformation [begins] with what is called the po. Once the po is born, its yang aspect is called the hun. When one uses things of fine quality abundantly, the hun and po become strong. Because of this, one has essence and brilliance extending to divine clarity. Even an ordinary man or woman who dies a violent death may have their hun and po attach themselves to human beings to act as an unbridled demon; how much more so Liangxiao!'
