Also, the Sanqian weiyi states: “If a bhikṣu does not wash after urination or defecation, he incurs a duṣkṛta offense, and he also must not sit upon the pure seats of the Saṅgha or pay homage to the Triratna; even if he pays homage, there is no merit. Furthermore, in going behind the lodge to the privy, there are twenty-five matters: First, when walking intending to relieve oneself, one must not pay homage to senior monks on the path. Second, neither should one receive homage from others. Third, when going, one should directly lower the head and look at the ground. Fourth, when approaching, one should snap the fingers three times. Fifth, if someone is already there and snaps their fingers, one must not press close. Sixth, having already stood properly and snapped the fingers, only then does one squat. Seventh, squat properly in the middle. Eighth, one must not have one foot forward and one foot back. Ninth, one must not lean the body. Tenth, gather the robes so they do not hang into the privy pit. Eleventh, one must not strain hard so as to make the face red. Twelfth, one should look straight ahead and not glance around or listen. Thirteenth, one must not soil the walls. Fourteenth, one must not lower the head to look into the privy pit. Fifteenth, one must not look at the genitals. Sixteenth, one must not hold the genitals with the hand. Seventeenth, one must not draw on the ground with grass. Eighteenth, one must not hold grass to write characters on the wall. Nineteenth, in using water, one must not be excessively wasteful. Twentieth, one must not splash and soil. Twenty-first, in using water, one must not let the front hand touch the back hand. Twenty-second, earth should be used three times. Twenty-third, bath beans should be used. Twenty-fourth, water should be used three times. Twenty-fifth, if one sees that the water, grass, or earth is exhausted, speak to the supervisor on duty; if one takes it with one's own hand, that is fine.”
