憔悴（上齊遙反下情遂反考聲云憔悴瘦惡也亦從頁作顦顇毛詩從言作譙誶班固從疒作癄瘁方言從心作憔悴漢武帝李夫人賦從女作嫶𡝵左傳從草作蕉萃蒼頡篇云憔悴者憂愁也亦無定體諸儒隨意作之並行於世未知孰是）。

Haggard and emaciated (憔悴; the first character is fanqie 齊 + 遙, the second is fanqie 情 + 遂. The Kaosheng says: "憔悴 means emaciated and sickly." It is also written with radical 頁 as 顦顇. In the Mao Commentary to the Shijing it takes radical 言 as 譙誶. Ban Gu writes it with radical 疒 as 癄瘁. The Fangyan writes it with radical 心 as 憔悴. Emperor Wu of Han's Rhapsody on Lady Li writes it with radical 女 as 嫶𡝵. The Zuo zhuan writes it with radical 艸 as 蕉萃. The Cangjie pian says: "憔悴 means sorrowful." It has no fixed graphic form, and various scholars wrote it as they pleased; they all circulate in the world, and it is unknown which is correct).
