謗讟（上博浪反杜注左傳云謗猶毀也說文從言旁聲下同祿反方言云讟猶痛也廣雅云惡也杜注左傳云誹也說文讟痛怨也從誩賣聲傳文從黑作黷非也誩音競也）。

謗讟 (Slander and revilement): The first character is read fanqie *b[ó]-[l]àng* [bàng]. Du's commentary on the *Zuo tradition* states: '謗 (*bàng*) means to defame.' The *Shuowen jiezi* states: 'It is classified under the radical *yán* (speech) with *páng* (旁) phonetic.' The second character is read fanqie *t[óng]-[l]ù* [dú]. The *Fangyan* states: '讟 (*dú*) means sorrow/resentment.' The *Guangya* states: 'It means evil.' Du's commentary on the *Zuo tradition* states: 'It means to slander.' The *Shuowen jiezi* states: '讟 means resentful grief; it is classified under the radical *jiàn* (誩) with *mài* (賣) phonetic.' Transmitted texts write it with the black radical as 黷, which is incorrect. 誩 is pronounced *jìng*.
