鞭撻（上卑連反考聲云打馬杖也字書云馬策也下他達反字書云擊也尚書云撻以記之也禮記云成王有過周云則撻伯禽也從手達聲也律文從革作韃非體也）。

鞭撻 (Whipping and flogging: for the first character, fanqie 卑連 [biān], the Kaosheng says: 'A rod used to strike a horse.' The character book says: 'A horse whip.' For the second character, fanqie 他達 [tà], the character book says: 'To strike.' The Shangshu says: 'Flogging to record it.' The Liji says: 'When King Cheng committed a fault, the Duke of Zhou flogged Boqin.' It is formed from 手 [hand] with 達 phonetic. The vinaya text writes it with 革 as 韃, which is an incorrect form.)
