Withdrawing the hairpin (抽簪: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] chi + jiu; the Qieyun says it means "to remove"; the Kaosheng says it means "to eliminate," and also "to pull out"; the Shuowen says it is formed from hand [手] with you as phonetic; the second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] ce + cen; the Kaosheng says it means an ornament of hairpins on an official's cap; the Shuowen says it is formed from bamboo [竹] with can as phonetic; can is pronounced qian, and also with the fanqie cai + gan).
