【Naiḥsargika】 From the Rules of Discipline; formerly translated as forfeiture and falling (sheduo). The Śabdavidyā states: "Nai is translated as complete (jin); sargika is translated as forfeiture (she)." The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: "Of the one hundred and twenty kinds in the saṅgha, thirty are divided and taken. Arising from material matters and violating with a mind of greed and arrogance, one is forcibly made to forfeit them to the saṅgha; hence it is named naiḥsargika."
