Catalogue of Works Currently Established for Canon Entry and Circulation, Upper Fascicle, Fascicle 13
Catalogue of Works Currently Established for Canon Entry and Circulation, Lower Fascicle, Fascicle 14
Total of Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna tripiṭaka texts, sages' compilations, biographies, etc.: 874 works, 4,253 fascicles (in the upper fascicle, Mahāyāna sūtras, vinaya, and śāstras entered into the canon: 563 works, 2,532 fascicles; in the lower fascicle, Hīnayāna sūtras, vinaya, śāstras, and compilations and biographies: 299 works, 1,620 fascicles).
Mahāyāna sūtras (462 works, 1,963 fascicles, 196 cases)
Mahāyāna vinaya (23 works, 49 fascicles, 5 cases)
Mahāyāna śāstras (88 works, 520 fascicles, 51 cases)
The above constitutes the upper fascicle of the catalogue of works entered into the canon.
Hīnayāna sūtras (207 works, 443 fascicles, 44 cases)
Hīnayāna vinaya (35 works, 260 fascicles, 28 cases)
Hīnayāna śāstras (36 works, 744 fascicles, 73 cases)
Sages' compilations and biographies (21 works, 41 fascicles, 4 cases)
The above constitutes the lower fascicle of the catalogue of works entered into the canon (a close calculation shows that the total number of works and fascicles is inconsistent with the numbers within the fascicles; an authoritative text has not yet been seen).
Catalogue of Spurious Sūtras, one fascicle (228 works, 419 fascicles)
The above, including the spurious catalogue, totals 15 fascicles. (The compiler of this catalogue states: When this catalogue was being settled, Masters of the Law were as numerous as a forest, yet possessing weighty virtue and lofty fame, they could not personally inspect it; they merely gave directions to junior students, ordering them to compile it. In the process, errors and omissions occurred in almost more than half of it. This was an instance of not entrusting the right people, and the fault lies with those who assigned them. For instance, the number of lost sūtras in Fascicle 12 totals 478 works, 677 fascicles. In the preceding eleven fascicles, these had already been fully included; now, counting them together, the total comes out to 3,616 works, 8,641 fascicles—this is not correct. It falsely increases the works and fascicles, yet upon investigating the facts, they do not exist. Various other confusions are hard to record exhaustively. In the *Shanfan lu* a certain amount has already been stated. Wanting to go into finer detail would risk prolixity, so I desist.)
*Kaiyuan Catalogue of Buddhist Teachings of the Great Tang*, twenty fascicles (compiled in the gengwu year [730 CE] by the śramaṇa Zhisheng of the Western Chongfu Temple)
