"'Not rising from the concentration of cessation and yet manifesting all bodily deportments: this is quiet meditation.'" Second, reprimanding the fault of quiescence and function conflicting with one another. When the Hīnayāna extinguishes the mind of sensation and perception, this is called the concentration of cessation; hence it is extinguished and without function. When the bodhisattva realizes that the mind's nature is eternally quiescent, this is called the concentration of cessation; hence it is quiescent and yet constantly functions. [Seng]zhao said: "When people of the Hīnayāna enter the concentration of cessation, their bodies are like withered wood, lacking the capability for activity and function. When the mahāsattva enters the concentration of the true mark, mind and wisdom are quiescent and extinguished, while his form fills the eight extremities. Conforming to the faculties, he acts, his responses encountering situations without limit; in all movements, advancing, and stopping, he does not abandon bodily deportments. His meditation may indeed be considered ultimate!"
