舍利弗言。天止此室其已久如　此下二約理厭明即不即棟文三。初文字離不離。二煩惱斷不斷。三解脫證不證。此初問答解釋八重分別。此子身問也。肇曰。止淨名大乘之室久近妙辯若此乎。

Śāriputra said: "Goddess, how long have you stayed in this room?" (Below, the second part clarifies identity and non-identity through aversion based on principle, in three sections: first, whether letters are departed from or not departed from; second, whether afflictions are severed or not severed; third, whether liberation is realized or not realized. Here, the first question-and-answer explanation consists of eight distinctions. This is Śāriputra's question. [Seng]zhao says: "Having stayed in Jingming's room of the Mahāyāna for so long or short a time, how is it that your wondrous eloquence is like this?")
