Intending to wash him with water, and in order to bring auspiciousness to the gods of the desire realm, Śakra, the lord of the gods, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of immeasurable divine retinues, rained down divine flowers like a shower, played various kinds of divine music, and remained in the sky above. At that time, the lord of the gods of the Heaven of the Thirty-Three held in his hand an exquisite vase accomplished through a hundred merits, filled with pure water of great compassion. Bowing his head to the feet of the Tathāgata, he went before the Tathāgata to receive him and stood to one side. Then the Tathāgata extended his hand endowed with a hundred merits, and from his five soft, long fingers emitted a great radiance that illuminated those gods and the vast retinue. Once that vast retinue took their seats, the Tathāgata himself approached the sick bhikṣu and emitted rays of light from the crown of his head, illuminating the sick bhikṣu. As soon as the light touched that sick bhikṣu, his suffering from illness was purified. With his body covered in sores, pus, and blood, he sought refuge; since he was unable to physically bow down to the Tathāgata, the Tathāgata took the precious vase from Śakra, the lord of the gods, with his right hand and poured water over the crown of the sick bhikṣu's head. With his left hand he washed and anointed the sores on the sick bhikṣu's body, and all the sick bhikṣu's sores healed following the touch of the Tathāgata's hand. When all his sores had healed in this way, that bhikṣu became delighted, overjoyed, and exultant, and exclaimed: "Homage to the Buddha Śākyamuni! Homage to the Father of Great Compassion! Homage to the supreme King of Physicians! The diseases of my body are healed today, but the disease of my mind alone remains unhealed. Out of your affectionate compassion, may the Tathāgata grant me the medicine of the Dharma and heal
