imīse ṇaṃ bhaṃte! rayaṇappabhāe puḍhavīe tīsāe nirayāvāsasayasahassesu egamegaṃsi nirayāvāsaṃsi neraiyāṇaṃ kevaiyā ṭhitiṭṭhāṇā pannattā?
goyamā! asaṃkhejjā ṭhitiṭṭhāṇā pannattā, taṃ jahā–jahanniyā ṭhitī, samayāhiyā jahanniyā ṭhitī, dusamayāhiyā jahanniyā ṭhitī jāva asaṃkhejjasamayāhiyā jahanniyā ṭhitī| tappāuggukkosiyā ṭhitī|

"Venerable Sir! In this Ratnaprabhā earth, in each single hell-abode among the thirty hundred thousand hell-abodes, how many lifespan duration gradations are declared for the inhabitants of hell?"
"Gautama! Innumerable lifespan duration gradations are declared, namely: the minimum lifespan duration, the minimum lifespan duration increased by one samaya, the minimum lifespan duration increased by two samayas, up to the minimum lifespan duration increased by innumerable samayas, [and] the corresponding maximum lifespan duration."
"Venerable Sir! In this Ratnaprabhā earth, in each single hell-abode among the thirty hundred thousand hell-abodes, are the inhabitants of hell who exist in the minimum lifespan duration applied with anger? Applied with pride? Applied with deceit? Applied with greed?"

First, they may all be: 1. applied with anger; 2. or [many] applied with anger and [one] applied with pride; 3. or [many] applied with anger and [many] applied with pride; 4. or [many] applied with anger and [one] applied with deceit; 5. or [many] applied with anger and [many] applied with deceit; 6. or [many] applied with anger and [one] applied with greed; 7. or [many] applied with anger and [many] applied with greed;
8. or [many] applied with anger, [one] applied with pride, and [one] applied with deceit; 9. [many] applied with anger, [one] applied with pride, and [many] applied with deceit; 10. [many] applied with anger, [many] applied with pride, and [one] applied with deceit; 11. [many] applied with anger, [many] applied with pride, and [many] applied with deceit; 12. [many] applied with anger, [one] applied with pride, and [one] applied with greed; 13. [many] applied with anger, [one] applied with pride, and [many] applied with greed; 14.
