deve ṇaṃ bhaṃte! mahiḍḍhie jāva mahesakkhe rūvasahassaṃ viuvvittā pabhū bhāsāsahassaṃ bhāsittae? haṃtā pabhū|
sā ṇaṃ bhaṃte! kiṃ egā bhāsā? bhāsāsahassaṃ?
goyamā! egā ṇaṃ sā bhāsā, no khalu taṃ bhāsāsahassaṃ|

"Venerable Sir! Is a deva of great supernatural power, up to, of great majesty, able to manifest a thousand forms and speak a thousand languages?"
"Yes, he is able."
"Venerable Sir! Is that one single language, or a thousand languages?"
"Gautama! That is one single language; it is indeed not a thousand languages."
