At that time and in that period, the Venerable Gautama saw the newly risen morning sun, radiant like a cluster of jāsamaṇa blossoms, reddish in colour; having seen it, his faith was aroused, up to, curiosity arose, and he went to where the Śramaṇa, the Lord Mahāvīra was; having approached, he circumambulated the Śramaṇa, the Lord Mahāvīra three times from right to left; having done so, he revered and paid homage to him; having revered and paid homage, neither too close nor too far, desiring to hear, paying homage, facing him, with folded hands in reverence, he attended upon him and spoke thus:
"Venerable Sir, what is this sun? Venerable Sir, what is the meaning of the sun?"
"Gautama! The sun is auspicious; the meaning of the sun is auspicious."
"Venerable Sir, what is this sun? Venerable Sir, what is the radiance of the sun?"
"Gautama! The sun is auspicious; the radiance of the sun is auspicious."
"Venerable Sir, what is this sun? Venerable Sir, what is the shade of the sun?"
"Gautama! The sun is auspicious; the shade of the sun is auspicious."
"Venerable Sir, what is this sun? Venerable Sir, what is the leśyā of the sun?"
"Gautama! The sun is auspicious; the leśyā of the sun is auspicious."
