1.3.11

hṛdi bisa-latā-hāro nāyaṃ bhujaṅgama-nāyakaḥ kuvalaya-dala-śreṇī kaṇṭhe na sā garala-dyutiḥ |
malayaja-rajo nedaṃ bhasma priyā-rahite mayi prahara na hara-bhrāntyā'naṅga krudhā kim u dhāvasi ||

For (sang he on) I am no foe of thine,
There is no black snake, Kama! in my hair;
Blue lotus-bloom, and not the poisoned brine,
Shadows my neck; what stains my bosom bare,
Thou God unfair!
Is sandal-dust, not ashes; nought of mine.

Edwin Arnold 1875, The Indian Song of Songs
