H. सवेर "early," "betimes," and अबेर, or more usually अबेर "late," are Skr. स and अ, compounded with बेला respectively. S. सवेर and अबेर, also अबेल, besides the adjectively used forms सवेरो and सवारो, as well as अबेलो. In this sense is also used H. सकाले, सकारे, O. and B. id.; in O. it is frequently used in the sense of “early in the morning,” also “early to-morrow morning,” as आजि जाइ पारिबुं नहिं सकाले जिबुं “To-day we shall not be able to go, we will go early to-morrow morning.” H. here uses तडके, conjunctive participle of तडना “to break,” as we should say “at break of day;” also भोर “dawn” is used in H. and O., भोरे in B. for “at dawn;” where G. has वाहाणो, M. उवां (Skr. उदय “sunrise”). Common also is Skr. प्रभाते, B. id., G. परभाते, of which the Oriyas make पाहान्ते “at dawn;” in Eastern Bengal one hears पाहा. The H. भोर is probably connected with the Skr. √भ्रा in some way not very clear. G. has a curious word मळसके “at dawn,” probably connected with मळवुं “to meet,” and, like Skr. सन्ध्या, indicating the meeting of darkness and light.
