論「若五識身至外門起故」，釋五識唯為隨轉。無分別故不能為轉，外門起故能為隨轉。
The treatise says: "If the five consciousness-bodies ... up to ... because they arise via external gates." This explains that the five consciousnesses only act as concomitant [motivators] (anuparivartaka). Because they lack discrimination, they cannot act as initiators; because they arise directed externally, they can act as concomitants.
