Buddhāvataṃsaka-sūtra (60 fascicles, or 50 fascicles; 1,087 sheets, 28 lines per sheet)
Translated by Buddhabhadra in the Yandu capital during the Yixi era of the Eastern Jin.
The one scripture above has fourteen different translations earlier and later, namely the Dushi [jing], the Jianbei [yiqiezhide jing], the Xinli [jing], the Shizhu [jing], the Xingxian [jing], the Luojia [jing], the Zhufa benye [jing], the Dousha [jing], the Fozang [jing], and so forth. All are excerpts and abridgements from the main text, circulated as separate chapters; their texts may appear or disappear, but their doctrinal purport is identical. Therefore, they are not catalogued here.
Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra (40 fascicles, or 36 fascicles; 720 sheets)
Translated by Dharmakṣema in the Liang capital during the Xuanshi era of Juqu [Mengxun] of the Northern Liang.
The one scripture above had five translations, but their branch chapters were incomplete and insufficient for general circulation; thus the above scripture is listed to subsume the remaining texts.
Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra (40 fascicles, or 30 fascicles; 619 sheets)
Translated by Kumārajīva at the Ximing Pavilion in the Xiaoyao Garden of Chang'an during the Hongshi era of the Later Qin.
The one scripture above has ten translations earlier and later: namely the Fangguang, Guangzan, Daoxing, and Xiaopin, each having newer and older [versions], as well as the Mingdu wuji, Yiri chaopin, and so on. Overlapping and redundant, they are seldom consulted; listing the former unifies the Great Meaning in full. The Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra later translated at Yuhua [Palace] sets forth the Buddha's single teaching career in sixteen assemblies, expounded according to the assemblies in some six hundred fascicles. It may be called the great path of the wisdom transcendence (jñāna/prajñā) by which the Buddhas have come, the boundless and limitless great ocean of wisdom. It is suited for veneration and offerings, but difficult to use for everyday practice. For this reason, Kumārajīva translated its śāstra in more than one thousand fascicles, but what the people of Qin transmitted omitted nine parts out of ten. Here, both sides are brought into harmony, adapting to circumstances as appropriate.
Mahāvaipulya Mahāsaṃnipāta-sūtra (60 fascicles, or 58 fascicles; 1,150 sheets)
The first 30 fascicles were translated by Dharmakṣema under the Northern Liang;
The latter 30 fascicles were translated by [Narendrayaśas] during the Northern Qi and Sui.
The one scripture above has fourteen translations earlier and later, namely the Da'ai [jing], Kongzang [jing], Baoji [jing], Baonü [jing], Wujinyi [jing], Achamo [jing], Baoxing [jing], Jingxing [jing], Zizaiwang [jing], Fenxunwang [jing], Xumizang [jing], Wuyan tongzi [jing], and so forth. All are records of separate chapters of the root scripture, which later people circulated separately according to section. Now they are collectively synthesised into the duplicate text, without need to unpack them for later generations.

Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra (7 fascicles, 148 sheets)
Translated by Kumārajīva in Chang'an during the Hongshi era of the Later Qin.
The one scripture above was first translated by Dharmarakṣa of the Western Jin, titled Zheng fahua jing in ten fascicles. In the Daye era of the Sui, [Jñāna]gupta made a later translation, adding five sheets to the 'Medicinal Herbs' chapter; the various mantras are entirely different, and the 'Entrustment' chapter was moved to the end. Depending on what suits the faculty of the listener, it does not diminish the Qin translation.
Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra (4 fascicles, 92 sheets)
Translated by Guṇabhadra in the Yandu capital during the Yuanjia era of the Song.
The one scripture above was later translated by Bodhiruci of the Later Wei, titled Ru lengqie jing in ten fascicles; its textual forms are more numerous, but the doctrinal meaning remains as of old.

Translated by Kumārajīva at Chang'an during the Hongshi era of the Later Qin.
The single sūtra above was first translated by Dharmarakṣa under the Western Jin, titled Sūtra of the Inquiries of Dharaṇīṃdhara, in four fascicles. The two recensions are broadly the same.

The single sūtra above was first translated by Lokakṣema under the Later Han, titled Ajātaśatrukaukṛtyavinodana-sūtra, in two fascicles. Phrasing and meaning have no discrepancy; here the later translation is retained.
Sūtra on the Samādhi of Equal Gathering of All Virtues (two or three fascicles, forty-nine sheets)
Translated by Dharmarakṣa under the Western Jin.
The single sūtra above is a different translation of the same original as the Sarvapuṇyasamuccaya-samādhi-sūtra.
Mahāvaipulya-susthitamati-devaputra-paripṛcchā-sūtra (four fascicles, sixty-eight sheets)
Translated by Jñānagupta at the Translation Hall of the Eastern Capital during the Daye era of the Sui.
The single sūtra above had three translations. Dharmarakṣa of the Western Jin translated it under the title Māyopama-samādhi-sūtra, in two fascicles. Bodhiruci of the Later Wei translated it under the title Ārya-susthitamati-paripṛcchā-sūtra, in three fascicles. Textual phrasing and doctrinal meaning are broadly the same; hence the later produced [version] is retained.

Translated by Zhiyand and others at the capital of Yang during the Yuanjia era of the Song.

Textual phrasing and doctrinal meaning are broadly the same; following what is admired by contemporaries, Viśeṣacinti is considered foremost.

Translated by Dharmarakṣa during the Taikang era of the Western Jin.

Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra (five fascicles, seventy-three sheets)
Translated by Xuanzang at Ci'en Si in the capital during the Zhenguan era of the Tang.
The single sūtra above had four translations. Initially, in the Song dynasty, Guṇabhadra produced it under the title Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra [Xiangxu jietuo jing]. During the Chen dynasty, Paramārtha produced it under the title Jie jie jing, which was abbreviated and incomplete. It was the same as the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra translated by Bodhiruci of the Later Wei. Therefore, the later version is retained as definitive.
Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra (three fascicles, sixty-one sheets)
Translated by Kumārajīva south of the Wei River in the Xiaoyao Garden at Chang'an under the Later Qin.
The single sūtra above had three translations. That translated by Zhi Qian during the Wu dynasty was the Vimalakīrti-sūtra, in two fascicles. That translated by Xuanzang of the Tang was the Sūtra Preached by the Stainless Named [Vimalakīrtinirdeśa], in six fascicles. In striking a balance between elaborateness and brevity, it is difficult to match the Qin translation. After all, just as "the Zhou followed the rituals of the Yin, and what was subtracted or added may be known," [the development is evident].
Sarvadharmāpravṛtti-sūtra (two fascicles, thirty-one sheets)
Translated by Kumārajīva under the Later Qin.
The single sūtra above was translated again by Jñānagupta during the Sui as the Sarvadharmamūlābhāva-sūtra, in three fascicles; its rhetorical power was inadequate, and because it is the same original text, it was omitted.
Anantaratna-samādhi-sūtra (one fascicle, thirty sheets)
Translated by Dharmarakṣa during the Yongjia era of the Western Jin.
The single sūtra above had another translation; one alternative translation is called Ratnatathāgata-samādhi-sūtra, in two fascicles, whose translator and era are lost. Because the text is identical, it is omitted.
Vaipulyanirvāṇa-sūtra (two fascicles, thirty-five sheets)
Translated by Buddhabhadra together with Faxian at the capital of Yang under the Eastern Jin.
The single sūtra above had three translations. A variant translation was titled Crying and Weeping Sūtra, in two fascicles. Jñānagupta during the Sui translated it as the Four Youths Sūtra, in three fascicles. The text does not differ; hence the Jin edition is retained.
