2.2.1
viharati vane rādhā sādhāraṇa-praṇaye harau
vigalita-nija-utkarṣāt īrṣyā-vaśena gatā anyataḥ /
kvacit api latā-kuñje guñjat-madhuvrata-maṇḍalī-
mukhara-śikhare līnā dīnā api uvāca rahaḥ sakhīm //
While Hari amused himself in the forest, his love shared equally, / Rādhā, driven by jealousy because her own pre-eminence had slipped away, went elsewhere; / hidden in a certain vine-bower whose high crests hummed with swarms of buzzing bees, / dejected, she spoke in secret to her confidante:
2.2.2
saṃcarat-adhara-sudhā-madhura-dhvani-mukharita-mohana-vaṃśam /
calita-dṛk-añcala-cañcala-mauli-kapola-vilola-vataṃsam //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
His enchanting flute resounding with the sweet sound of the nectar from his moving lips, / with rolling glances from the corners of his eyes, his head shaking and his ear-ornaments swinging on his cheeks— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.3
candraka-cāru-mayūra-śikhaṇḍaka-maṇḍala-valayita-keśam /
pracura-purandara-dhanuḥ-anurañjita-medura-mudira-suveśam //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
His hair encircled with a crown of lovely peacock feathers bearing eyes, / well attired like a dense raincloud adorned with a vast rainbow— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.4
gopa-kadamba-nitambavatī-mukha-cumbana-lambhita-lobham /
bandhujīva-madhura-adhara-pallavam ullasita-smita-śobham //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
Seized with longing to kiss the faces of the cowherd women with shapely hips, / the sprout-like sweetness of his lips like bandhujīva flowers, the splendour of his smile shining forth— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.5
vipula-pulaka-bhuja-pallava-valayita-ballava-yuvati-sahasram /
kara-caraṇa-urasi maṇi-gaṇa-bhūṣaṇa-kiraṇa-vibhinna-tamisram //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
Surrounded by a thousand cowherd maidens whose sprout-like arms thrilled with broad horripilation, / the darkness shattered by the rays of jewel ornaments on his hands, feet and chest— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.6
jalada-paṭala-valat-indu-vinindaka-candana-tilaka-lalāṭam /
pīna-ghana-stana-maṇḍala-mardana-nirdaya-hṛdaya-kapāṭam //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
His forehead bearing a sandalwood mark that mocks the moon moving through clouds, / the door of his chest merciless in crushing the orbs of their full, firm breasts— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.7
maṇi-maya-makara-manohara-kuṇḍala-maṇḍita-gaṇḍam udāram /
pīta-vasanam anugata-muni-manuja-sura-asura-vara-parivāram //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
His cheeks adorned with handsome jewel-encrusted sea-monster earrings, noble, / clad in yellow garments, followed by an entourage of the best among sages, men, gods and asuras— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.8
viśada-kadamba-tale militam kali-kaluṣa-bhayaṃ śamayantam /
mām api kimapi taraṅgat-anaṅga-dṛśā manasā ramayantam //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
Met beneath a fair kadamba tree, quelling the fear of the defilements of Kali, / giving delight also to me somehow with his mind and with eyes brimming with desire— / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.9
śrījayadeva-bhaṇitam atisundara-mohana-madhuripu-rūpam /
hari-caraṇa-smaraṇam prati saṃprati puṇyavatām anurūpam //
rāse harim iha vihita-vilāsam smarati manaḥ mama kṛta-parihāsam //
This form of the enemy of Madhu, exceedingly handsome and enchanting, sung by Śrī Jayadeva, / is worthy now for the virtuous who remember Hari's feet: / here, in the rāsa-dance, my mind remembers Hari who performed amorous dalliance, mocking me.
2.2.10
gaṇayati guṇa-grāmam bhāmam bhramāt api na īhate
vahati ca parītoṣam doṣam vimuñcati dūrataḥ /
yuvatiṣu valat-tṛṣṇe kṛṣṇe vihāriṇi mām vinā
punaḥ api manaḥ vāmam kāmam karoti karomi kim //
It counts his multitude of virtues; it does not seek anger even by mistake; / it bears satisfaction and casts faults far away. / When Kṛṣṇa sports without me, his thirst turned toward other young women, / my contrary mind still feels desire—what shall I do?
2.2.11
nibhṛta-nikuñja-gṛham gatayā niśi rahasi nilīya vasantam /
cakita-vilokita-sakala-diśā rati-rabhasa-rasena hasantam //

ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Staying hidden in secret at night as I went to the solitary bower-chamber, / looking timidly in all directions, laughing in the excitement and passion of amorous pleasure— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.12
prathama-samāgama-lajjitayā paṭu-cāṭu-śataiḥ anukūlam /

sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Brought round by hundreds of clever flatteries when I was shy at our first encounter, / my voice murmuring soft, sweet smiles, the silk cloth loosened from my hips— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.13
kisalaya-śayana-niveśitayā ciram urasi mama eva śayānam /
kṛta-parirambhaṇa-cumbanayā parirabhya kṛta-adhara-pānam //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Placed upon a bed of tender sprouts, he lay long upon my very chest; / embraced by me who kissed him, he embraced me and drank my lips— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.14
alasa-nimīlita-locanayā pulaka-āvali-lalita-kapolam /
śrama-jala-sakala-kalevarayā vara-madana-madāt atilolam //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
My eyes languidly closed, his cheeks charming with rows of bristling hairs, / my whole body covered in drops of sweat from exertion, he restlessly agitated by the intoxication of supreme love— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.15
kokila-kala-rava-kūjitayā jita-manasija-tantra-vicāram /
ślatha-kusuma-ākula-kuntalayā nakha-likhita-ghana-stana-bhāram //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Cooing like the melodious cry of the cuckoo, he surpassed the teachings of the manual of love; / my hair dishevelled and loosened of flowers, he scratched with nails the weight of my firm breasts— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.16
caraṇa-raṇita-maṇi-nūpurayā paripūrita-surata-vitānam /
mukhara-viśṛṅkhala-mekhalayā sa-kacagraha-cumbana-dānam //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
The jewel-anklets jingling on my feet, spreading out an awning for lovemaking, / the girdle of bells jingling and loose, he gave a kiss while seizing my hair— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.17
rati-sukha-samaya-rasa-ālasayā dara-mukulita-nayana-sarojam /
niḥsaha-nipatita-tanu-latayā madhusūdanam udita-manojam //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Languid with the flavor of the moment of love's joy, his eye-lotuses half closed, / my slender creeper-like body fallen helpless, Madhusūdana's desire aroused— / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.18
śrījayadeva-bhaṇitam idam atiśaya-madhuripu-nidhuvana-śīlam /
sukham utkaṇṭhita-gopa-vadhū-kathitam vitanotu salīlam //
sakhi he keśimathanam udāram
ramaya mayā saha madana-manoratha-bhāvitayā savikāram //
Spoken by Śrī Jayadeva, recounting the secret amorous sports of Madhu's foe, / spoken by the longing cowherd maiden, may this playfully spread joy: / O confidante, bring noble Keśi's slayer / into union with me, full of passion, overcome with erotic yearning!
2.2.19
hasta-srasta-vilāsa-vaṃśam anṛju-bhrū-vallimat ballavī-

mām udvīkṣya vilakṣitam smita-sudhā-mugdha-ānanam kānane
govindam vraja-sundarī-gaṇa-vṛtam paśyāmi hṛṣyāmi ca //
His playful flute slipped from his hand, his eyebrow-creeper curved, glances from the corners of his eyes driving off the throng of cowherd girls, / his cheek-region drenched with abundant sweat, / seeing me and embarrassed, his charming face sweet with a smile in the forest— / I see Govinda surrounded by the multitude of Vraja's beauties, and I rejoice.
2.2.20

prasūtiḥ cūtānām sakhi śikhariṇī iyam sukhayati //
Hard to behold, the budding blossom of the fresh young aśoka creeper, / and the breeze from the grove beside the lake, torments me; / nor does this blossoming crest of mango trees, delightful with the humming of wandering bees, / bring pleasure, O confidante!
