In the Detailed Catalogue, Part Three: Catalogue of Branch Extractions Circulating Separately
26.3
Six hundred and eighty-three works in eight hundred and twelve fascicles.
26.4
As for 'branch-extraction sūtras': this refers to those excerpted from major works to circulate separately, such as the Second Assembly of the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra. Indeed, the Dharma-gates are vast and extensive, their shores and shallows seldom charted; the canonical scriptures are teeming and manifold, their boundaries never exhausted. Therefore, to teach and guide in accordance with circumstance, responding to living beings by providing conditions, brief selections were drawn from large works to be used as the occasion required. Those who opened and explored them did not know their source, while those who studied and practiced them found that their doctrinal coherence was left incomplete. Now I bring together their multiple offshoots and return them each to their proper work; moreover, I prune the old catalogues, adjusting additions and omissions according to whether texts exist or not, fully recording their titles and meticulously explaining discrepancies. I hope to enable future scholars to inspect the branches and thereby know the source, yet fearing this may still fall short of perfection, I entrust it to the wisdom of future sages.

It is also simply an alternative title for the Xiaopin, Fangguang, etc. (The compiler notes: Since it was abridged from the great sūtra, it belongs to the category of separate extracts. If entered among the standard sūtras, I fear it would introduce errors; hence it is appended to this catalogue.)

26.7.3
The above Yiqie wang jing (King of All Sūtra): the various catalogues all say it was translated by Kumārajīva. In the catalogue of separate offshoot texts, it is called the Saheotan wang jing (King Sarvadada Sūtra), an anonymous translation of the Later Han. There is also this sūtra, and it is said that "Saheotan" means "Bestower of All" (Sarvadada). Comparing it with that sūtra, the text is identical without difference; hence it is catalogued here.

The above: in the old catalogues there is a Cheni benmo jing in 1 fascicle, also said to be from fascicle 8. Now examining its text, it is none other than the Shihepian wang jing, with no difference whatsoever. The Shihepian wang jing was given its title based on the opening narrative, while the Cheni benmo jing established its name based on the later text. Since they are one and the same story, they cannot be divided into two. Now only one title is retained.

(These five sūtras—Hemo wang jing, Xiang wang jing, Pusa wei lu wang jing, Ma wang jing, and Jingmian wang jing—though recorded in various catalogues and anciently identical with these, have all been newly entered above.)
Neng mie zhu zui qianzhuan tuoluoni jing, 1 fascicle (This is one incantation among the five incantations translated by Dharma Master Xuanzang. Since it is categorized as a separate offshoot text, it is recorded in this catalogue; newly entered above)
Baoman pin chao jing, 1 fascicle (Extracted from the Bao wang jing)
Chengyang zhu fo gongde jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says: an extract from the three-fascicle Chengyang zhu fo gongde jing. It may be identical to the subsequent three texts; newly entered above)

Dingyi sanmei jing, 1 fascicle (Extracted from fascicle 4 of the Shi zhu duan jie jing)
Xianjie qian fo ming jing, 1 fascicle (Extracted from the Bhadrakalpika-sūtra; Sengyou's catalogue says: extracted by the Eastern Jin śramaṇa Zhu Falan, recording the names of the thousand Buddhas. The opening preface states: The Bhadrakalpika-sūtra speaks of 2,100 perfections, beginning with Krakucchanda Buddha. This sūtra has a different translation, which is the one beginning with Kanakamuni Buddha)
Guan fo xianghao jing, 1 fascicle (Extracted from the Guan fo sanmei hai jing)

Wuliang le fotu jing, 1 fascicle (Also called Guotu; extracted from fascicle 3)
You cheng shifang fo ming de duo fu jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says it is an extract; the Chen catalogue says it was extracted from fascicle 3 of the Anguo jing; newly entered above)

Dishishi Anguomouluo fafu jing, 1 fascicle

The above: 8 works in 8 fascicles from the Guomouluo mu downwards were all extracted from the Aṅgulimāla-sūtra.

Zhu Falan's preface notes this himself, but does not indicate its provenance)
26.7.4
Daguangming pusa bai sishiba yuan jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says it is an extract; newly entered above)
Pusa liu fa xing jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says it is an extract)
Pusa benyuan xing pin jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says it is an extract; newly entered above)

Tonghao fo ming jing, 1 fascicle (Three sheets; newly entered above)
Sanshi fa jing, 1 fascicle (Sometimes written with the character chi; two sheets; newly entered above)
The ten sūtras including the Sanshiqi pin: Sengyou's catalogue says they are extracts without specifying their source. Among them, regarding the Pusa zhu kuxing jing, on examining the manuscript it is unquestionably an extract, yet it is still unknown from which sūtra or vinaya it comes. Regarding the four sūtras including the Liu jing, now on seeing their manuscripts they are indeed extract sūtras as well. Furthermore, in the Renshou Catalogue of Various Sūtras of the Sui dynasty, there are in total 117 Mahāyāna extract sūtras in 137 fascicles that likewise do not specify their source. Now examining the catalogues of various dynasties, most have already been included. That catalogue takes texts such as the Hu zhu tongzi jing and the Tuolinni bo jing to be separate offshoot extracts, which is unreasonable. Since there is no certain basis, it is difficult to rely on them. They are briefly explained as above, and the rest have been excised and not recorded.

26.10
Pusa dichi jie jing, 1 fascicle (Fajing's catalogue calls it the Pusa dichi jing)
Pusa jie yaoyi jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says: an extract of the Bodhisattva Prātimokṣa, which is the Bodhisattvabhūmi; Fajing's catalogue agrees)
Pusa shanjie shoujie jing, 1 fascicle (Fajing's catalogue says: extracted from the Bodhisattvabhadrashīla-sūtra)
Jingchu yezhang jing, 1 fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says: an extract from the Jing yezhang jing; Fajing's catalogue agrees)
Upāsaka-śīla-sūtra, 1 fascicle (Fajing's catalogue says: extracted from the Upāsikā-sūtra)
Quan de jing, 1 fascicle (Fajing's catalogue says: extracted from the Śāriputra-paścāttāpa-sūtra)
Zaijia pusa jie, 1 fascicle
The above seven precepts: in Fajing's catalogue they are catalogued as anonymous translations. Now having personally examined their texts, although their sources are unknown, they are unquestionably extracts: they took the five-part prātimokṣa preface and placed it at the beginning, followed by the precepts. This was an anthology compiled by someone, not a translation from an original text. Fajing's catalogue also contains ten other sūtras listed as extracts from various vinayas, which are not retained here. As for those further recorded in the catalogues of various dynasties, they are intentionally omitted here.

Fajing's catalogue also contains ten sūtras described as extracts from various treatises; since it does not state their provenance, they are not preserved here. Where any were recorded in the catalogues of various dynasties, they are intentionally omitted here.

(Also called *Fo ru ganlu diao zhengyi jing*; clarifies meditation. Sengyou calls it *Fo ru ganlu diaoyi jing*.)
The four sūtras from *Di-yi simen* down all derive from the *Shi'er damen jing*. Sengyou says: "From the first of the four gates to the *Ganlu diaoyi*, there are four chapters in total, which together constitute the single work of the *Da shi'er men jing*. Later people divided them by chapter and copied them out, which ended up forming four separate sūtras."
The fourteen works in fourteen fascicles, including the *Dajaye yu niganzi jing* and others, are all separate offshoot sūtras of the *Dīrghāgama* class.

*Shouchi jing* (Sūtra on Upholding), one fascicle (taken from the thirtieth fascicle; also said to be taken from the thirty-fifth [fascicle] of the *Saṃyuktāgama*).

26.16.2
Sūtra on the Six Declining Matters, in one fascicle (Sengyou's catalogue says it is among the translations; now seeing its text, it says it comes from the Ekottarika-āgama, four and a half sheets). Newly compiled above.

The twenty-six works in twenty-six fascicles from the Sūtra on the Simile of the Flying Bird downward all come from the Ekottarika-āgama.
According to the Catalogues of the Multitude of Sūtras from the Sui Kaihuang [and Renshou] periods, Renshou 2, there are further three sūtras,
namely the Sūtra on the Appearance of Four Persons, the Sūtra on the Brāhmaṇa Evading Death, and the Sūtra on the Four Narakas,
which also say they come from the Ekottarika-āgama. Now having examined them, these are variant translations, not offshoot extracts. Having already been compiled into the catalogue, they are omitted here. As for the two sūtras, the Ekottarika-āgama [Sūtra] and the Cultivating the Sevenfold Practice and Receiving Manifest Retribution, formerly they were said to come from the Ekottarika-āgama, yet having been called variant translations, they were compiled into the catalogue of extant works. Now having examined them, they are offshoot extracts and not variant translations. The Sūtra on the Twelve Links of Dependent Origination, the Sūtra on Maitreya's Descent to Earth, and the Sūtra on the Six Declining Matters also come from the Ekottarika-āgama, and are therefore appended to this catalogue.
